Why I made
ZUVIE.
It started with my own skin.
I’ve always cared about looking after my skin. When I experienced dryness and red patches, I started paying closer attention to my routine and the products I used. I can’t say exactly what caused it, and I think my lifestyle may have played a part.
My experience also changed how I think about skincare. The products I use are one part of how I look after myself. My everyday habits matter, too, and I don’t expect a serum to make up for the rest of my lifestyle.
I care about what goes into the formula. I also care about being honest about its place in a routine.
I began with an existing formula and had both the fragrance and the SPF component removed, while increasing niacinamide to 2% and raising the peptide levels. We’re working with a laboratory in the UK and have sent 25 bottles of our serum for testing. Following the laboratory’s recommendation on preservation, we increased phenoxyethanol to 0.45%. Our original formula passed its preservation challenge test. We’ve since removed the two added colorants. We’re confirming with the UK laboratory whether the existing result also covers the updated formula. The independent safety assessment is still pending.
That’s why I published every ingredient and its declared amount before asking anyone to buy it, so you can decide whether this formula belongs in your routine.

I want to talk about that formula with confidence. I also want to be precise about what we know. An ingredient paper and a person’s experience with a finished serum are different things.
